What is a good nationwhide chain restaurant that has good gluten free vegetarian food?
I have Celiac, and waited for a long time to become a vegetarian, because I was worried that I would have nothing to eat, since I can’t have gluten either. Now I’m taking the plunge! What restaurants have good food with my dietary restrictions? Nationwide chains or in Colorado.
Olive Garden has one thing on their menu that is both gluten free and vegetarian–penne pasta with marinara(they use rice pasta, be sure to ask for the gluten free menu, and specify that you need gluten free) their salads are gluten free assuming you say NO croutons and I dont know for sure about the dressing. I know it has parmesan, so I dont eat it. But I did ask for olive oil/vinegar which works fine.
If you have a P.F Changs around they have some gluten free/vegetarian menu items
Red Robin has a gluten free menu too. I have had the rice bowl(I asked for no butter) and steamed veggies with no reaction.

Vegetarian food to serve at a party?
I’m having my 18th birthday party in a few weeks and have no idea what to serve as far as food. I’m a vegetarian, as well as a few of my friends. I want to serve food that everyone will eat, vegetarians as well as people who are not vegetarians. So far the only thing I have on the list is Penne A la Vodka. What else can I serve? AND what do you like to eat when you go to a party (remember, needs to be vegertarian). Thanks in advance.
There’s so many options and I’ll just throw a bunch of ideas at you for your consideration:
Have a great olive, cheese, and raw vegetable tray, cracker, breadsticks
Black beans and rice with fried plantains

Eggplant parmesan
Baked ziti or lasagna
Here’s a fabulous recipe for "meatballs" These are loved by meat eaters, too. You can have them cooking in a crock pot with a sweet and sour sauce or a tomato sauce and have rolls or serve it with a hot pasta dish.

tobouli salad is always nice and tomatoes and parsley are at their freshest right now
I love the colors and flavors in a bean salad with black beans, dark red kidney beans and corn–I make a couple of different recipes, one is a little spicy/sweet and the other is more of a vinagrette/cilantro flavor. Here’s one that I have heard is wonderful but i haven’t tried it yet:

Make a great pasta salad with chopped spinach, lemon juice, red wine venegar, oil, salt pepper, basil , cherry tomatoes, nuts(pine nuts are great but others are too) or seeds like sunflower seeds
Polenta(my favorite!)—Slowly mix one cup of coarse cornmeal in 4 cups of cold water. Stir in 1 teasp salt. Put it on med high heat and stir frequently so it doesn’t clump. When it comes to boil, turn heat down and stir constantly for about 15 min or until very, very thick. Remove from heat and pour into a greased loaf pan. Chill and slice, spritz with oil spray and fry or grill. Note: before pouring into loaf pan, you can add things you like–grated cheese, herbs, cooked wild rice, whatever. It is delicious hot or room temp.
I’d like to see fresh cut seasonal fruit
Desserts–really good homemade ones and hot coffee at the end of the dinner or party is always welcome, too!
Happy birthday and have fun!
Best unusual vegetarian food when eating out?
We are keen on experimenting with different vegetarian foods. Tofu has been experienced in Hong Kong as fish and meat with really good flavor. What exciting(?) vegetarian foods have you had and where. Any where we can go in UK? We are open to all cultural recipes which have all been asian so far!
South Indian food!!
I know that there are lots of indian restaurants in the UK, and I would highly recommend that you seek out an authentic South Indian place. Love love LOVE their food!!
North Indian vegetarian food is also pretty tasty, but can be heavy on dairy products. If you aren’t vegan you might really like it.
Also, if you can find a good Ethiopian restaurant which offers vegan selections, I would highly recommend it! Yum, yum, YUM!!
Thai food is also quite tasty
Why do some vegetarian places make fake food?
(Sincere) I love vegetables and vegetarian foods but it disgusts me to see those "fake meat" foods. You know, tofu shaped to look like a Chinese resturant deep fried shrimp or chicken wing. What is the point of that? I was served that stuff last night and it was really revolting. If you are a vegetarian why on earth do you want some heavy gross food shaped to LOOK like meat? Signed, Sincere and Wondering and Heading Towards Vegetarianism
Because you are sincere and wondering, here is my reasoning:
I grew up in a poor, meat-centric household. Potatoes were side dishes, and vegetables were corn or peas… and took up very little of our plates.

To this day I like very few vegetables, and I only like them because I have tried very hard over the past few years to find veggies I do like.
I stopped eating meat for moral reasons, I found I was no longer able to take part in eating animal flesh. Fake meats were my saving grace in vegetarianism. It is lame, but in my family, meat=food. I really liked the flavor of meat, and my tastes never found out how to enjoy light and healthy foods like vegetables.
Fake meats gave me something I could relate to and allowed me to feel as though I wasn’t missing out. Mind you, my diet is a lot more varied now than when I was a child, but soy rocks.
Cooking Vegetarian – Simple Ways To Cook Vegetarian Food
In all forms of cooking there are some principles to bear in mind that can make it easier. Vegetarian dishes are no exception. Even the simplest recipe can look really complicated unless we understand the basics.
The simplest of all dishes is a one pot stew or casserole. There are vegetarian versions that taste just as good as meat based ones. If you have the essential ingredients to hand you can make a very simple vegetarian casserole.
All you need to do is add a tin of beans such as kidney beans, pinto beans, butter beans of flageolet beans to a root vegetable casserole. You can develop some variations on this theme by adding a topping of breadcrumbs with or without grated cheese and putting it in the oven for a few minutes. You could even add a pastry crust or a cobbler topping and bake it. Dumplings are an excellent addition and make a hearty vegetarian meal.
Vegetarian soups are just as simple. If you cook some lentils, carrots and onions for about 15 minutes you can whizz the whole thing in a food processor to make soup. Season to taste and stir a spoonful of yoghurt or creme fraiche into each dish as you serve it. A sprinkling of chopped coriander or parsley adds a special touch.
A pea soup is even easier. Cook some frozen peas in boiling water with a sprig of mint. When they are cooked put them in the food processor. Season to taste and serve. A slice of wholemeal bread makes a satisfying vegetarian lunch.
Another one pot stand by is risotto. A mushroom risotto makes a quick and easy vegetarian supper. Arborio rice cooks in about 10 minutes and it will take about the same to chop up some onions, garlic and mushrooms.
Stir fry is a great vegetarian stand by. The great advantage of this kind of cooking is that you can adapt it to whatever vegetables you have available. If you have some tofu in the store cupboard it is easy to make a vegetarian stir fry. Mushrooms also make a good vegetarian stir fry.
A stir fry is not quite a one pot dish because you will need to cook some rice or noodles to go with it. But noodles are very easy and only take about 10 minutes or less.
Cooking brown rice can be a slow business which puts many people off using it. But the best way to make this essential vegetarian food easy is to invest in an electric rice. cooker. Your rice will be done perfectly every time and become the basis of many easy vegetarian meals.

are there any online stores that sell vegetarian food?
No offense to anyone, but don’t send me any links to Chinese websites. I have had bad experiences buying anything from China! If you know of a good online source for vegetarian foods, please fill me in. Thanks!

what big name store can i buy vegetarian food? for example veggie patties, tofurky?
can i find vegetarian food at trader joe’s?
Wegmans, Shoprite, A&P to name a few.
Most all foodstores have a vegetarian or whole foods section now a days.
However most warehouse stores don’t have very much. Like the BJ ’s shopping club by me sells soy milk, free range eggs and veggie burgers but that is as far as their vegetarian section goes.
What is the word for someone who eats both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food?
like they usually eat non-vegetarian food but they don’t mind eating vegetarian food.
